Clone?

Happy Wednesday! Hope this midweek day is great. (That felt like a weird sentence to type.)

As for posting every Tuesday, well, I forgot yesterday. No worries.

Before I get into the post, thank you for the recent followers. It is nice to get feedback in the forms of “liked” and “…is now following your blog.”

Now to the the best two minutes of your day.

I am reading a book entitled In His Image. This is book one of three called The Christ Clone Trilogy. Here is a link to the books. The artwork is newer than the copy I have but it is still the same book.

This is the version I own.

It is a fiction story. The author puts a note at the beginning describing how he is writing the story.

I am not going into the theology of cloning Christ (if that is even possible?). Nor do I want to spoil a good book.

Synopsis: A person is cloned from living cells that were found on the Shroud of Turin during a scientific research event. That is all I will say about the book.

What the book has done for me is that it has planted a thought in my brain.

That thought is the basis for this post. So here you go…

Isn’t the goal of following Jesus to become more like Jesus?

I teach biology. The amount of DNA in our cells is staggering. All the variety is part of God’s plan. So my thought is not becoming like Jesus in a physical way.

I am talking about the unseen things of life.

  • The way I respond to crisis.
  • My reaction to my wife or kids when I am stressed.
  • How well (or not well) did I treat my coworkers.
  • My driving.
  • My work ethic.
  • When I am alone, what am I doing.

These, and many more that you could list, are the things that make me like Jesus.

And the good part is that He will help us!

Being like Jesus is the goal. And God has graciously given us everything we need to accomplish this goal. It is up to us if we decide to use the assistance.

For me, I fall short everyday. But with God, all things are possible!

So go out there and be a Christ Clone today!

Today could have been a life-changing day, or not.

It was possibly quite boring, or not.

Most likely, this Tuesday was somewhere between those two extremes.

Well, on Tuesdays, I post on my blog. So keep reading for the best two minutes of your day!

I have mentioned in previous posts that I teach high school science.

A chemistry class, biology class, and a general science class to round it out.

I know, science might be unattractive to you. Your idea of chemistry probably has nothing to do with beakers, moles, atoms, or elements.

As for me, I love science. Bring on every “ology” you can think of!

Today I discussed the water cycle in Biology. Water evaporates from the ground, condenses in the sky, and then returns to earth in rain or snow. Repeat. This is how the prevents itself from drying out or flooding.

Evaporation > Condensation > Precipitation

You might have heard of this before but did not recognize it as something that is a process. It falls under the umbrella of Ecology.

Humor aside, I know people don’t always share my enthusiasim for scientific things.

Here is the main reason why I love science: it points me to God.

Think of the water cycle. Instead of the word water, insert the word prayer.

Prayer evaporates from the ground (our prayers to God), condenses in the sky (symbolizing God hearing all we pray about) , and then returns (answers from God to us) to earth in rain or snow. Repeat.

This is one example of hundreds or even thousands of concepts, ideas, or principles that point to God.

I love my job. Today, my job loved me and gave me a reminder of my life in Christ.

So next time you participate in something sciency, let it point you to God.

The “Gold” in Golden Ticket

A man was wearing a new gold watch he received as a birthday present. While visiting a busy park, he bumped into another person. Only a few seconds passed before he noticed that his watch was missing. He turned to see the pickpocket running away. As loud as he could, he yelled, “AU, that is not your watch”

On a serious note, why is gold so valuable?

When you read the stories of the Bible and gold is mentioned, it means that the stuff made of gold is important. It has high quality. Perhaps it is the best that it can be.

It also represents royalty. Kings and queens wear gold, not commoners.

Jesus was at the wedding in Cana because he had an invite. His ministry, and by extension his power, was not known yet.

But we know more of Jesus because of what our Bibles tell us. Jesus is also the King of Kings. That means he gets to wear a crown.

A crown made of gold. The best kind of crown there is.

Another name for Jesus is Messiah. This mean that he is ‘the anointed one’, the Christ, the Savior.

When you invite the Messiah, he brings meaning into your life.

The ordinary wedding in Cana turned into a magnificent display of the power of God.

Jesus, the Messiah, brought purpose and meaning to that place.

He can do the same for you and I.

If you have read any of my blogs, you know that I typically will use alliteration. I think it helps to remember stuff. So, with that thought in mind, here is a preview of the next two posts:

The Messiah can bring meaning through miracles.

The Messiah can use the mundane to work miracles.

But for now, just know that inviting Jesus is the best idea. He is worth more than gold. There is always value when Jesus shows up.

 

White Blood Cells

But isn’t blood red? Exactly what you were thinking, right? No worries, I am not getting into deep scientific stuff here. I’d be in over my head!

I just want to explore the reason white blood cells exist and how that can be encouraging to someone who wants to follow Jesus.

The main purpose for white blood cells is to fight infection. Bacteria, germs, and viruses that invade the body are attacked by the white blood cells.

If all goes well, the infection is eradicated. If not, sickness will follow.

The blood that flows in our bodies has fighting power. Healing power.

It is amazing to know that God created our bodies with this inherent ability!

With that in mind, read Isaiah 53:4-5,

“4Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

This passage has the title of Suffering Servant. I feel that it is describing Jesus even though is was written hundreds of years before he was alive!

Please read that last sentence again. By his wounds we are healed. His wounds came from the torture and crucifixion that led to his death. Scourging. Whipping. Nailing. Cutting. Stabbing. The blood of Jesus flowed that day.

And now we can have healing. Primarily healing from sin. But secondly, from disease.

Having my sins removed (think white blood cells eradicating a virus) is so wonderful. That is the ultimate reward. Thank you Jesus!

But I think physical healing can be drawn from these verses as well.

Maybe an instant miracle.

Maybe a successful surgery.

Maybe a lifestyle change.

Maybe death which takes a believer to heaven thereby receiving a full healing!

I am not sure if you need healing (spiritually from sin or physical from sickness) but I do know that by his wounds we are healed.

We ARE healed. Believe it today friend!
