Jesus is risen! Yes!!!

Easter celebrates the empty tomb. Our faith rests on this fact. Jesus is not in the grave anymore.

The Power of An Empty Tomb —

And that brings me to a question:

Why do you look for the living among the dead?

Here is the origin of that question. Luke 24:1-8

“1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8Then they remembered his words.” NIV

Easter is over, at least the celebration part. But every day can be an ’empty tomb’ day.

So why do we keep going back to ‘dead’ things?

You know what I mean, right?

Old habits…

Broken relationships…

Unhealthy things…

Undisciplined living…

Note verse 8. “Then they remembered…”

The ladies recalled what Jesus had taught them. AFTER the angels spoke to them.

Is that what it takes for us? Angel visits?!?!

If you remember back to the H.E.L.P. series, you know that God is right there with us.

Through God’s assistance, we can have ‘angel visits’ on a regular basis.

  • The Holy Spirit can speak to us on a daily basis.
  • Going to church can be refreshing.
  • Reading the Bible will unlock power in your life.
  • Friends will stand by you.

These are the ‘angel visits’ that will help us remember the words of Jesus.

So while the hype of Easter is behind us and you have eaten all the chocolate from your kids’ baskets, be encouraged by the fact that we don’t need angels to visit us.

God can (and would love to) reveal Himself to you today. Look for Him even now.

Welcome to Terrific Thursday!

This week has been an abnormal week for me. Sometimes it feels nice to mix things up though.

Along with my week, I have been debating on which word to use for the letter L.

So, in light of this minor dilemna, I will not choose one or the other.

Both words will win!

H – Holy Spirit

E – Ekklesia

L – Logos or Library

P –

In John 1, we see this word Logos. Not english Logos but greek Logos. Both ekklesia and logos are greek words.

Logos is simply defined as a word (as embodying an idea), a statement, a speech.

But we can take it a step further.

A word, being the expression of a thought; is preeminently used of Christ, expressing the thoughts of the Father through the Spirit.

And now let’s connect this to the idea of God helping us.

God gives a word about Jesus, which is the expression of His thoughts, thus aiding us in our walk.

God uses Logos to reveal to us what He is thinking! The God of the Universe, Creator of all things is giving us a glimpse of His thought process. Wow!

The other word is Library. Right away, this seems to be no nearly as exciting as Logos but hang on. Let me show you something.

There are over 170 million items in the Library of Congress. Here is the website.

It is the largest library in the world.

With that in mind, let’s look at one more verse from John.

John 21:25 says, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” NIV

Understanding the magnitude of this means that Jesus is now the largest library in the world!

We could never exhaust the resource of Jesus.

So whether you prefer Logos or Library, it does not matter.

Both bring us to Jesus and He is the ultimate resource.

If you need help today, call on the name of Jesus. There, you will be satisfied.

Hey there! If you are joining me for the first time, you have stepped right into the middle of a series! Don’t worry, you don’t need to clean your shoes.

Alrighty! Jumping in where we left off…

The word HELP is an acronym.

H – Holy Spirit

E –

L –

So now, we come to the E. I hope you like different languages because we are about to head to Greece!

The New Testament was written in Greek. It was a common language at the time of Jesus. I do not claim to be any type of scholar but I have learned some things. Let me share one thing I have learned.

The Church is a great help when it comes to living for God.

“1577 ekklēsía(from 1537 /ek, “out from and to” and 2564 /kaléō, “to call”) – properly, people called out from the world and to God, the outcome being the Church (the mystical body of Christ) – i.e. the universal (total) body of believers whom God calls out from the world and into His eternal kingdom.”

The definition you just read comes from the word “church” used in Matthew 16:18.

Jesus said to Peter, “Upon this rock I will build my church (ekklesia)”

The second form of divine help is the church.

With that statement, there can be a myriad of ideas as to what the church is or should be.

Let’s go back to that definition. We are “people called out from the world and to God.”

When we get together for church, we celebrate this idea that God has called us out! He has purpose for us. And by worshiping Him with other believers, we can keep moving forward in our pursuit of Him!

As to which specific church building should a person attend? That is highly subjective because of so many differing reasons.

Here is my simple formula for deciding:

  1. Is the church bible-based with its teaching and doctrine?
  2. Do you feel challenged and encouraged when learning about God and His Word?
  3. Is there music that is within your range of liking?
  4. Is there a place within the church that you can help and share your talents?

If you can answer yes to these questions, then you may have just found your church home!

The reason I write about a local church is that I think that it is supremely important to be connected to a body of believers.

Through COVID and 2020, my family and I have not been to church but for a few weeks. It has been terrible.

It is really difficult to live for God as a lone ranger. The Kingdom of heaven is not for mavericks!

The Holy Spirit resides in each believer. That form of help cannot be taken away.

The church, ekklesia, is also available for anyone. Make use of that help today.

H – Holy Spirit

L –

P –

God will help you everyday. He might just choose to a church.

Do you remember this movie?

It was a Pixar movie that came out in 2008. Here is a link to Pixar’s website about the movie.

I put this one in my top 5 animated movies of all time.

But it was not until I had watched it several times that I realized the name, Wall-E, was an acrostic.

A quote from Pixar’s website proclaims, “WALL•E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) is the last robot left on Earth, programmed to clean up the planet, one trash cube at a time. However, after 700 years, he’s developed one little glitch…”

I want to share another acrostic with you. H.E.L.P.

As in, God has help available for you and I but it comes in various forms. I took the liberty to use the word HELP and made an acrostic.

Last week’s post, Consider the Source, will give more context as to why I am writing about help.

When God helps us, He does not always use the same methods. If you read the Old Testament, God was super-creative in how He would spare the children of Israel.

For us, that same supernatural creativity has not been exhausted.

The first Help He gives is the Holy Spirit.

Here is verse 7 from John 16: “7But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” NIV

Let’s focus on that word, Advocate. If we look a little deeper, we can get a grasp on its meaning.

In a broad sense, think helper, aide, or assistant. The Holy Spirit would replace Jesus. It was his role to lead the apostles (and us-by extension) into a deeper knowledge of God and His truth, and also to provide divine strength when undergoing temptations or persecution.

Trials and tribulations were never meant to be removed but endured. God would not allow us to go up against something alone. He knew we are only frail humans.

But with His help, the Holy Spirit, we can be over-comers! Romans 8 gives us that title.

Volumes upon volumes have been written about the Holy Spirit. Various doctrines center around the third person of the Trinity.

I am not writing on behalf of a specific church or denomination.

I am trying to interpret God’s Word accurately.

And if I am correct, which, by the way, I am confident that I am, the Holy Spirit is right beside me every step along this journey of life.

He is also right by your side.

Let’s continue to walk in stride with Him.

All week long I have been pondering the “help” to which I was referring.

I came up with a few types of help that God is able to give us.

But before those are explained, I want to consider the source. So if you are really wanting to know more about getting help from God, hang on. It will have to wait until next week.

Have you ever been to Lake Itasca?

Having lived in Minnesota for 18 years, I know where it is. In fact, I have been there.

Maybe this picture will help.

Just a couple hours northwest of the Twin Cities, Lake Itasca is one of the normal 10,000+ lakes in Minnesota.

But what is note-worthy is what it contains.

The Mississippi River starts out of Lake Itasca.

This unremarkable waterway begins the journey of thousands of miles. The Mississippi eventually drains into the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.

Such a powerful force has an average start.

I have walked across those rocks. It really doesn’t feel that special. But it is.

And it starts in an unassuming manner.

God desires to help us. If you are unsure of this, check out Psalm 23 and 121.

Again, how that help actually arrives to meet us is for another post.

Consider the source. Consider where the help actually starts.

Read John 3:16 with this author’s emphasis and edits:

For God – the greatest Person

so loved – the greatest Action

the world – the greatest Audience

that He gave – the greatest Verb

his only son – the greatest Sacrifice

and whoever – the greatest Opportunity

believes – the greatest Choice

in Him – the greatest Focus

shall not perish – the greatest Promise

but have eternal life. – the greatest Gift

God is an unending, unselfish, and overly generous source of help. Tap into Him today.

If (or when) you feel like a trickling stream that is going nowhere, consider the source.

God might just be pouring into you the makings of a raging river.
