Looking ahead.

Today is a new day. That is a really good thing. Yesterday is behind and today is filled with potential.

I wonder what I am going to do for God today? How about you?

This month we looked at Christmas and I shared some of my thoughts with you. Now I turn the tables.

What do you think?

Feel free to comment, question, suggest. I would like to hear feedback.

And as for looking ahead, I was referring to next month. Jars will be the topic of my blogs for February.

Until next week, God bless!

What does 2015 hold for you?

Hello friends,

It is Sunday night, December 21st. It is also the shortest day of the year. That means two things:

  • Winter starts today. =-(
  • The days will be getting longer starting tomorrow. =-)

I like to think of myself as an optimist. It seems that there is always a bright side to any situation. Sure, it may not be evident right away but keep looking. When I think ahead to the next year, I see tons of potential. It will be an adventure trying to free that potential.

God is so incredible. He created me exactly like He wanted to. That is the extreme potential that I am talking about. As I continually lay my life down for Him, He can release more potential.

A quick illustration from the world of science. A roller coaster that sits on the track but never moves is full of potential. Even as that coaster is cranking up that first incline, it is still remaining as potential energy. Once the train gets over that initial hump and start to descend, the potential energy becomes kinetic energy. That coaster, at that moment, is doing exactly what it was created to do. Potential energy is stored energy waiting to be released. Kinetic energy is energy that is moving, it is being expended.

God gave me potential when He created me. I am thrilled because 2015 is going to be a year of kinetic energy. It will truly be wonderful to do exactly what I am created to do. I hope you find God in this amazing way.

So are you seeing the potential in yourself? Remember, it might be a little difficult at first but you have potential. It’s in there!

Look for some good changes in 2015! See you next year, Merry Christmas.

Funnel or Bucket?

Hello friends and family! It is December 2nd right now and I have been reflecting back on 2014 and also looking ahead to 2015.

2014…what a year! Here are few highlights;

  • I celebrated 14 years of marriage to my beautiful wife.
  • My kids are doing well in 1st and 4th grades.
  • I will have performed 50 wedding ceremonies in 2014.
  • In July, I gave the Invocation at the Packer Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
  • Lastly, I started a blog.

I am sure I could list more but that is not the point.

SO….

the point 2

If I am not more like Jesus than I was in 2013 than my list of things I did in 2014 is pointless.

In 2015, I am setting goals and changing things in my life. All for one purpose, to be more like Jesus. If my life is a funnel, being like Jesus is the smallest part, the very tip of the funnel. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, must flow through that one little section. If I am not a funnel than I would probably be a bucket. I would fill up on whatever comes my way. I’d rather be a funnel than a bucket.

So expect some changes with my blog. There might even be times when I will ask for feedback. Feel free to comment when asked or even if you are not asked. I welcome your thoughts.

So get ready friends, 2015 will be full of change. Which one will you be?

To My Dad.

Hello Friends!

You may not know this but I have been trying to post on the 1st and 15th of each month. There have been a few days when I missed that mark but for the most part, it has been steady. For October 15th, I was planning remembering my dad. He passed away on the 13th. With the world change I was going through and my computer being broken for a while, I am just getting to the post today. So without further delay…

My dad, Roger Allan Sorbo, was an awesome man. I would need many, many more “two minutes with Tim” to tell all there is to tell about him. I don’t but I can summarize. Here goes:

He was the piano man. With 12 years of classical lessons, my dad could play any song in any style. Give him a piano and let him roll! It was amazing how the music of his life was captured in only 88 keys! One of his favorite things in life was to play the piano. They must have pianos in heaven!?!?!? His music is on CD so if you want to hear it, contact me.

He was the practical man. My dad was a doctor. He had his PhD in Nuclear Chemistry. One does not get such a degree without being highly pragmatic! He drove the car with the best gas mileage. He would multi-task to save time. When we would work in the garden, we would talk about science stuff. So logical and analytical was my dad. We even joked that he didn’t have feelings because he was so practical.

He was the playing man. My dad was a gamer before it was popular. Because of his intelligence it was so hard to ever beat him. We could play Boggle until 2:00 in the morning! He also played golf and softball. My dad loved to play games. It must be genetic because I love to play games as well.

But the my dad was also a pure man. He lived his life for Jesus. At a young age, my dad gave his heart to the Lord. His sins were washed away. Despite having many difficulties later in life, his attitude always reflected his salvation. God saved him. And he knew it. My dad would always remind me that God is in control of his life so why worry. Just get up and do the right thing.

So as I think about my dad, I am sad. He always reviewed each blog before I posted it. Not this one though. Bummer, this one will be a favorite of mine.

Before I go, can I ask you a question? Is God in control of your life?

Thanks dad. I love you and miss you. See you in heaven someday. =-) dad

“G”

I live in Green Bay, WI. What was the first thing that popped into your mind when you read the words Green Bay?

For many, the football team that plays here would be the first thing into their minds. For others, it might be cheese. Beer? Some might even call it home. But I think we could agree that we are the most famous for the green and gold, the Green Bay Packers.

Back in July of this year, I had an amazing opportunity. Without going into the whole story, I was asked if I would give the Invocation at the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Induction Banquet!

Needless to say, my answer was yes.

My wife and I got to attend the banquet, enjoy dinner, meet some famous people and shake hands with some Packers themselves.

Big deal right? Sure, it was probably something that I will never get to do again. It was really fun! Meeting these larger-than-life people is surreal. Very tasty food also!

But if one is not careful, those things (Packers, banquets, fame, food etc.) can become the object of our worship.

I believe that God created us with a built-in capacity to worship. We will worship something. The great part is that we get to choose what object, thing, or person we will worship.

Let that sink in for a minute. Click this to read a passage from God’s word.

To end this post, I want to share with you the prayer that I prayed for the Invocation. For me, reading it again is a good reminder to reevaluate what I am worshipping.

Thank, It is indeed an honor to be a part of Packer history so again, thank you.

We are all on a journey. Life itself is a journey. Everyday, we make stops along the way of our own journey. However, for the vast majority of those of us gathered here tonight, those stops do not include being inducted into the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame!

It is a gift to be a great football player as such are gathered here tonight. In fact, all gifts are given to us by God and God alone. Therefore, as we honor these men tonight, let us remember to recognize that all good things come from the Father above. Let us pray.

Almighty God, we magnify you tonight. For it is by your grace that we stand here today. May we honor you because of who you are.

Arrest us in our sin.

Aid us in our shortcomings.

Affirm us in our strengths.

May your blessing rest on these inductees. Let your love abound to all who are present.

Thank you for all the work and effort that has preceded this banquet and give us nourishment from our meal.

We pray all of these things in the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.

Closing thought, “What does that G stand for again?”G on helmet
