Lent, pt. 23

Science is cool. I mean, really cool.

science is cool

Science tells me…

  • that there are 206 bones in an average adult human.
  • that if you put all the blood vessels in your body end to end, it would circle the        equator over 4 times!
  • that oxygen and hydrogen are two of the most flammable elements found in nature but when combined, they form water.

Shall I continue?

And God made it all.

He is responsible. The more I learn about the world above me, below me, around me, and even in me, I like God more.

Yep. He did all of it and I think He is awesome.

Gasp!!!

Has something ever been so amazing or frightful that you could not even speak!?!? Have you witnessed something so incredible that the air in your lungs escaped with a whisper?

Is there anything in your life that you would qualify as breathtaking?

If you remember my last post (click here to read it), I mentioned a new series and a new format. This is part 2 in that series and here is a quick refresher on the new format:

The Word – The topic of the blog in one Word.

The Worth – This part contains my thoughts about the Word.

The Work – I conclude with a practical application of the Word.

The Word – Breathtaking

The Worth – I simply typed in Google the word “breathtaking” and here are a few of the images that I was able to enjoy.

Our creation is really and truly breathtaking. But I am not really speaking of the creation more so than I am referring to the Creator!

Check out these verses from I Kings 8,

6The priests then brought the ark of the Lord’s covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. 7The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles. 8These poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today. 9There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt. 10When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord11And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple.” NIV, Underline mine.

Notice verses 10 and 11.

It was only when the priests got out of the way, that the Lord got in the way.

The Work – I want God to take my breath away. I want to see miracles like I read about in the Word. I want God to do such awesome things that my breath is stolen away.

Do you? Are you working to please men or our Lord? Is He your priority?

My prayer is that I may be like those priests;

“Lord, help me to get out of the way so you can get in the way!”

Take my breath away!!!

Three Ps in a Pod. part 1

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: The old has gone, the new is here!” NIV

Doesn’t that just sound great reading that verse? I am filled with hope just knowing that I am a new creation! But there is still more so for the next two minutes, let’s see what we can discover!

Therefore…how many times do we see that word in Scripture? In 2 Corinthians 5:11-21, the NIV has it listed 3 times. So what is it there for?

Our verse, verse 17, starts with “Therefore…”. So we need to ask the question,
What is it there for?

Paul is writing to a church that is having some issues. Many of these issues are similar to ours today. I think that the Corinthians were having an identity issue. Christ had done a redeeming work but the people were not translating that to their daily lives very well.

Chapter 5 starts with Paul describing how our bodies are temporary. We will be clothed with glory when we die. Verse 10 talks of the judgement seat of Christ. All will stand before Christ someday. This should galvanize us to live all the more for Christ!

There is a transition, then, into verse 11. The author is trying to explain why he preaches and lives the way he does. Jumping to verse 14, it reads, “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all,…”

I love the strong language…compels. Who is compelled these days? Wow!

And more strong words…

“one died for all…”

Because my two minutes is almost up, I will get right to it.

You have been pardoned for your sin. I have also been pardoned.

The sin is gone.

I will jump into this blissful pool of sin-eradication next week.

Until then, enjoy your Pardon. =-)

Standing in front of a wall…

I would label the wall in front of me Writer’s Block. For September, I had planned on writing about my Yellowstone road trip. Fallen short on that project. But hey, who am I to stay defeated? I can get up and keep moving forward.

This morning, I had an email in my inbox that was awesome. As a blogger, I follow other blogs. It is nice to get inspiration, encouragement, or whatever else may be in those posts. This one was really timely for me. I had been planning on using a verse from Isaiah 40 when I wrote about the Grand Tetons. It just made sense to me. However, I am going let someone else expound on God’s creation. There will be a link for that blog at the bottom of this post. I felt it was much better written. You can start by enjoying a few pictures…

Thank you for reading my post and I hope you are truly inspired by the other one. It inspired me.

My words don’t do God’s creation justice.

Yellowstone National Park. I have been torn as to what to write today. Last week I wrote about Mt. Rushmore. I knew this week was about Yellowstone.

So I decided that I am not going to write much. There will be some pictures that will tell the story. These pictures are all from a google search so I can’t take credit for any of them. Please do your self a favor and check out many of the websites about Yellowstone.

Better yet, go there. It will be completely worth it. After all, over 3 million visitors a year can’t be wrong, can they?

It really was amazing to see all of the wildlife and geographical features in one place! When the buffalo stood on the road and we just waited in our cars for them to move was a very fond memory. Watching Old Faithful do its thing. Super cool.

I just kept coming back to Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God created…”

And wow! Did He do an awesome job or what!?!?
